Community Mental Health Workshop

Mumbai First & SPARC – Mahila Milan are engaging with women living in informal settlements of Govandi & Dharavi by organising a workshop on mental health.

Mahila Milan is a network of women from poor neighbourhoods who organised themselves into savings groups, largely to put aside monies for emergencies, by saving small amounts every day. For the last 2 years, this network is working on health and well-being and in the process of understanding health and health service access challenges in their areas, they understood that health issues are not plain physical but also mental and psychosomatic, and expressed their wish to understand it better and consider what they can assist people with as barefoot counsellors.

At the workshop, trained counsellors and psychotherapists will work with the women to help build a more robust mental health capacity within communities.
