Yenepoya Pharmacy Students Pays a Visit to Old-age home for Daan Utsav
On 10th October 2019, 60 Pharmacy students of Yenepoya Pharmacy College & Research Centre, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru with the lead of Principal Dr. Mohammed Gulzar Ahmed, Mr. Asif NSS Program Officer, Mr. Razak Convener MHRD together with few teaching and non teaching staff paid a needful and lovely visit to the Olavina Halli Rehabilitation & Community Development Centre, Kinya, Mangaluru for Daan Utsav 2019 with the moto of ‘we care for you’. Place like Olavina halli is an important part of our society as it gives destitutes the kind of upbringing they need regardless of their personal and family situation. Too often this people find themselves in a situation where they don’t have loved ones to take care of them. The reasons can be many but at the end the result is the same they become people with nowhere to go and no way to get the proper care and entertainment they need. That is why we thought it is worthwhile to celebrate daan utsav by visiting destitues to help out them with some special food, activities and entertainment so they don’t feel completely left out. The programme was started with musical session by principal meanwhile students distributed special food with dessert to all the inmates and sisters. We all had an opportunity to share and enjoy our lunch with them. Soon after the lunch MC Mrs. Nishmitha Gretta D Souza, Assistant Professor, YPCRC invited the dignitaries to the stage. The welcome address and significance of the day was given by the principal, later sister superior Stephanie, In-charge of the centre addressed the gathering. She thanked college team for selecting their centre for celebrating DAAN utsav and felt blessed for the same and gave their blessings to college team too. The fast number Konkani song was sung by Mrs. Nishmitha Gretta D Souza. The old-age home was a place with activities all afternoon as students played all sorts of games with inmates which includes blind test, musical chair, bombing the city and passing the cap. Dr. Mohammed Gulzar distributed prizes for winner and runner-ups. Many destitutes participated in all the lucky games and enjoyed with us. Some of the inmates took joy of singing songs with us. The visit was ended with the group photo session and sweet distribution to all people of Olavina Halli rehabilitation & community development centre by 3rd year B.Pharm students.
