Goonj is a nonprofit organisation that works with the core philosophy that the excess material lying unused in urban households could be channelized to rural needy areas and could be used as a tool to carry out developmental activities. Materials that have been sitting in a corner of the cupboard could be shared with someone who needs it. Goonj, an 18-year-old organization, thus channelizes vast variety of usable material like clothes, school material, sanitary pads, utensils etc. as a critical development resource in remote parts of 22 states of India. The material is not given free of cost rather people get it with a lot of dignity and self- respect in lieu of practical development works that they choose to work on like road cleaning/ repair, making a bamboo school, cleaning water bodies, drainage system etc.
This year, as part of #DaanUtsav, Goonj is orchestrating a Bus collection drive across India and in Mumbai on October 2nd. Several schools, colleges, corporates and contract bus operators are agreeing to provide their buses free of cost on Oct 2 to collect, carry and drop off materials donated by people across the state. We see this as a great way to engage citizens in development of the state and upliftment of the poor.
Since this is a social activity for a cause, we request you to donate Books, Toys, Stationary, household items on Oct 02 (Tuesday). Around 100 Buses will ply in and around the Mumbai city from Dahisar area to Colaba, from Juhu to Mulund, including the Navi Mumbai area. You can update yourself as Collection Center for GOONJ on IamHere app, to be downloaded from Play Store. The Buses will show itself Live, on 2nd Oct on the IamHere app. We invite you to contribute to Goonj Collection Drive.
