October 2 is observed as the National Anti-Drug Addiction Day to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi who vociferously spoke against the use of drugs and addiction. But, drug use, especially among the youth, has been on the rise. “Addiction generally begins with tobacco, moves towards alcohol and gaanja (cannabis) – It is also considered as gateways to hard drugs or hard substances.
Spandan is working in the field of deaddiction and mental health from last 21 years, giving services to nearby urban slum areas of govandi and mankhurd, which are known as hub of addictions. By preventing addiction, lot’s of life can be saved and families could be rescued.
This pandemic has been a nightmare for addicts, consumption has increased, suicides have increased multifold in this population. Many felt Helplessness and became desperate.
We need to counsel them. Motivate them and carry out deaddiction.
